It’s official: Africa is shining on the world marathon stage, and we made this moment possible together! After years of building, racing, improving, and answering every standard the Abbott World Marathon Majors set before us, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon has officially passed the final stage of assessment. We are now the eighth Abbott World Marathon Major in the world, and the first ever on African soil, which means that on 23 May 2027, Africa will take its place on the world stage alongside Tokyo, Boston, London, Sydney, Berlin, Chicago and New York. This marks more than just a milestone for the race – it is a milestone for our continent and for everyone who has contributed to this remarkable journey. That vision has now been realized. Right here at home.
